It's been a while now since he arrived here, and while he still doesn't agree with what these guys are doing and has no way of knowing if they are telling the truth, his initial stance has changed a lot. There are multiple ways of looking at once specific situation. Different perspectives. He cannot blame the people who are genuinely glad to be here for one reason or another. And if he thinks about it hard, being here is better than being dead, or having to deal with--witness--the aftermath of his decisions.

I don't--didn't--really have a connection to this place. Why should I care? Why should I fight for anyone but myself? And even that seemed pointless at times. I honestly can't tell you if this world is worth all this trouble--some people in it, though. Some people in it are, which is the sole reason why keeping myself going doesn't seem completely pointless.

Or maybe it's more accurate to say that you're the one who keeps me going, and I'm sure not a single day does pass without you thinking that I'm more trouble than I'm worth. But to answer your original question, if there are people who are still alive, and have a reason to be glad for it, it's probably a good thing. Not perfect, but good enough.
